Dear Residents,
Kunst Bridge
Kunst bridge is currently being transported to the site and is expected to arrive by Early November. Meanwhile, essential civil work must be completed to prepare for its installation. Although the official opening date is yet to be finalised, we anticipate completing the installation and commissioning of Kunst Bridge by year-end. We will inform you once the date is confirmed. With such a significant milestone for Munna Creek, we will be organising an inauguration event in 2025 at Munna Creek Hall to celebrate with you all.
Piling
Piling activities on-site are scheduled to commence on October 14th. This phase will see an increased presence of workers arriving at the site in minivans.
Piling marks the initial stage in the construction process for the solar tracker at the Solar Farm, with trackers eventually being installed on these piles. Subsequently, the solar modules are to be mounted onto the trackers. We plan to install a total of 36,547 piles.
Blowers Road Upgrade and Intersection Enhancement
The sealing work at the intersection of Blowers Road and Bauple Woolooga Road has been completed. Remaining roadworks along Blowers Road are anticipated to conclude by the end of the October. We extend our appreciation to residents for your patience and cooperation during this period of upgrading and improving your roads.
Munna Creek Solar Farm Substation
Significant progress is being made on the substation at Munna Creek Solar Farm, with completion expected by February 2025. Once finished, the substation will enable the solar farm to connect to the existing Woolooga to Mungar electricity transmission line, integrating it into the Australian national grid.
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation during the construction period.
Construction hours are between 7am – 5pm Monday to Saturday.

Munna Creek Solar Farm – What’s coming up
Dear neighbours,
Happy New Year to you! We hope you had a wonderful Christmas and managed to enjoy time with loved ones. We wish you the very best for 2024.
We’ve taken a short breather and have a big year ahead of us as we prepare the solar farm site for major works.
What we’re doing
From February 2024, we’ll begin to upgrade the intersection at Blowers Road.
What to expect
- An upcoming invitation to participate in our community event. Metlen want the local community members to learn more about the project and show you the plans of the Blowers Road Intersection upgrade.
- An increase in workers, trucks, vehicles, and equipment in the area, which will be closely managed by our team
- Some impacts to local roads in and around the project area, which again we will seek to manage in a way as to cause as little inconvenience as possible
While we conduct these activities, there will be some short-term noise and light impacts, and you should expect to see some machinery while we make our way gradually through the area.
We will have traffic management on hand at Blowers Road at various times in the upcoming months, to minimise these impacts and to help keep the community moving safely.
What we have we done so far
- Completed site investigations to understand local ground conditions before major construction
- Hosted two community information sessions

Ongoing Discussions with the Council
We’ve been working closely with the Council to ensure everything goes as planned. Currently, we’re in the process of having the necessary Operation Works Permits (OWP) assessed by the Council. We are securing the OWP for various scopes, including vegetation clearing, fencing, HV substation pad, and Kunst Bridge.
Cultural Heritage and Site Induction for Our Team
Preserving local heritage and ensuring our team’s safety are of utmost importance. We’re collaborating closely with the local cultural heritage body to include relevant content in our site induction. We’re finalising the full site induction to provide comprehensive training and guidance for a safe and productive work environment.
Temporary amenities will be delivered this week, and signage orders are in progress to ensure clear and accessible information for all involved in the project.
Cultural Heritage and Tree Preservation
Ongoing cultural heritage inspections are in progress. The Cultural Heritage team will inspect the bridge, road intersection, and alternative access track. Kabi Kabi has recommended preserving a couple of large trees on site. Our surveyor has visited the site to capture trees identified by Kabi Kabi, and we’re updating the layout based on their findings.
Water Quality Testing
Our continuous water quality testing reflects our commitment to maintaining environmental responsibility and safety throughout the construction process. We’re dedicated to upholding local water quality standards, and our ongoing testing is part of our proactive approach to safeguard the environment and the community. SEPTEMBER 2023
Munna Creek Solar Community Update
The latest updates on the Munna Creek Kunst Bridge Project
We are excited to bring you the latest updates on the Munna Creek Kunst Bridge Project, a collaborative effort between Metlen and the Fraser Coast Regional Council. On 30th of August Metlen Munna Creek team met with key council members to discuss the proposal for Kunst Bridge.
We aim to keep you informed about the progress and key developments in this critical infrastructure project we are bringing to the Munna Creek community.
Proposed Bridge Structure
We have shared our plans with the council for a new steel structure bridge that will serve as a vital connection in our community.
Here are the key details:
- Length: Approximately 45 to 50 meters
- Width: Approximately 4.5 meters
- Type: Single lane bridge
The proposed location for this bridge is at the site of the old, decommissioned bridge, ensuring a seamless continuation of our transportation network. This steel bridge design has been used on similar projects, providing a reliable and safe crossing.
Maintenance of Steel Structure Bridge
Maintenance is a crucial aspect of any infrastructure project. Metlen has provided insights into the maintenance plan for the steel structure bridge:
- Regular inspections: The bridge will undergo inspections every 12 months and after any significant events.
- Level 1 assessments: These assessments will primarily involve mechanical checks to ensure the bridge’s integrity.
- Defects period: Metlen plans to address defects within a period ranging from 12 months to three years.
- Extended maintenance: An additional two years of maintenance will be added due to high traffic during construction. After the construction period, a 24-month coverage will ensure the bridge’s continued reliability.
Operational Works Application & Construction
Metlen has lodged the operational works application with the council. We anticipate a construction period of approximately one year and four months for this project. Once completed and accepted as an asset, the Fraser Coast Regional Council will assume responsibility for insurance and maintenance. Detailed engineering documentation and inspections will ensure the safety and functionality of the bridge and road area.
Early Works
We are currently seeking approval for minimal vegetation clearing while finalising the bridge design. Metlen has also engaged with the Kabi Kabi people to ensure our dedication to respectful and sustainable project development.
Removal of Old Pylons
In an effort to preserve our local heritage, the old bridge pylons will not be removed.
Staff Camp Area
To support the project, we are considering the establishment of a camp near the project site to accommodate workers. The proposed camp would house approximately 75 individuals and adhere to all relevant regulations. We are working closely with the Council to ensure compliance and community comfort.
We value your input and support throughout this project. As it progresses, we will continue to keep you informed and engaged. Your feedback and questions are always welcome as we work together to enhance our community’s infrastructure. Please don’t forget to sign up for email updates on our website to be the first to receive updates.
Sincerely,
Munna Creek Solar Farm Team
